From Kristiane. Here are the rules: 1) Link back to the person who tagged you. 2) Post the rules on your blog. 3) Write six things about yourself. 4) Tag six people at the end of your post by posting links to their blog sites. 5) Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their site. 6) And let your tagger know when your entry is up.

1) I’m starting to get a gut. Granted, a “gut” for me isn’t much of a gut, but I could grab, pinch and pull off a good chunk of stuff…I couldn’t do this just a few months ago. I plan on starting a workout of some ab crunches. Considering it’s taken me almost a month to do this post after getting “tagged”…we’ll see when I get around to chiseling my abs.

Sean Duggen - \ “The Moon Over the Desert” by Sean Duggen. A 26-second nighttime exposure at ISO 250. Beautiful. (via f/1.4 Photographs)

I’m so glad last week is over. I cannot tell you how relieved I am because it was not only the end of yet another semester, it was the end of a “Stage In Life.” Maybe not so dramatic as to deserve capitalization and quotation marks but it’s still kind of a big deal.

Next fall, I will be studying at a new school, in a new city, finally having transferred out. I swear, the last handful of years have felt like I was running on a hamster wheel. It does bother me a little that most of my peers have already graduated, but really, I’m so over worrying about being done with school by a certain age. It’s pretty much a non-issue.

I’m excited. (I don’t really get too easily excited by life circumstances.) Although I can’t wait to get a U-Haul trailer, fill it up with my belongings, and pull up to my new school a couple months from now, I’m still stressing over some complications to sort out and a bunch of little bumps standing in the way. But that’s how it always is. There very well may be a window that opens whenever a door closes, but no one told me that oftentimes when a great big door of opportunity opens, it seems every window in sight slams shut, leaving you with little ventilation and feeling all stuffy and claustrophobic. Okay, I may be over-exaggerating a little, but still, that’s how it feels sometimes.

This summer will be a busy and pivotal one. Work and school business permitting, I want to travel a little. Catch a Spurs game back home in San Antonio (assuming my beloved Spurs somehow find a way to make it past the evil Lakers), visit my cousin in NYC, and go hang out with my brother back in the motherland (Korea).

It feels good to be staring down the road of life and being at one of those points where you know the road is about to take you some place you’ve never been — where you can actually see something different, a change, a curve in the road, an orange sky in the distance, some mountains, something.

Songs of the Day:

Alexi Murdoch – “Orange Sky”
Coldplay – “White Shadows”
Okkervil River – “The Latest Toughs”
Jimmy Eat World – “The World You Love”
Death Cab for Cutie – “Blacking Out the Friction”

It’s that time of year again. It’s been slowly building up for the past few weeks and things have now reached that familiar, dreaded crescendo. Yep, it’s that time when I cut myself off from friends, family, and most other forms of interaction to get myself through what is known as “Finals Week.”

I have a 20-page paper due by Tuesday. It’s for a ridiculously unorganized and challenging class that is worth about 4 times more credits than I’m getting for it. (The class actually turned out okay. A little exhausting, but okay…like most classes.)

I haven’t exactly started on the paper yet…and there are of course the final exams themselves to cram for.

But it’s actually not as bad this year. It isn’t nearly as bad as last semester, which I still can’t believe I got through in one piece. I think I lost about 8 pounds because of that. Maybe it’ll only be about 4 pounds this time around.

I hate life right now, but in a few days, I will experience immense joy in just being alive.

Songs of the Day:

Queen – “Under Pressure”
Beach Boys – “I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times”
Noisettes – “Don’t Give Up”
Coldplay – “Help Is ‘Round the Corner”

This post is for National Blog Posting Month, which was brought to my attention by the lovely and hilarious Essaytch. They have something different every month and for April, the objective is to write a letter a day for a month. I’m obviously not writing a letter a day but I’m participating anyway.

And I’m sneaking in two more before this month is over, just to be more of a “participant.” Because 2 is kind of weak. So is 4, but hey, that qualifies as a “handful,” which is all I wanted to write.

Dear Lit-class Girl,

You probably remember me, but I’m not too sure. You were in a couple of my Lit. classes with me last year. “British Literature after 1800,” and “British Literature before 1800” the very next semester. Both the classes were held in the same room, and you sat in the middle each semester. I thought you were kind of cute.

Random Numbers (#1)
“Random Numbers (#1)” 2002, by Mel Bochner

This is a post of randomness.

I was surfing the Internets recently (like I do for most of my waking hours), and I came across this nugget of wisdom:

Writing is 1% inspiration and 99% not being distracted by the Internet…

I cannot emphasize enough how true that statement is for me (and too many others). When I have something important to do (usually a big paper, or story, or article, or report, or something related to my increasingly useless-looking major), I freakin’ waste time in every way imaginable — everything from blogging, music, driving around after I convince myself I have to go somewhere, doing laundry and not folding the clothes for hours, etc.

Half the time, the internet and my computer are what keep me occupied. And I’m either blog-hopping, reading about music and bands ad nauseum, or going on a never-ending train of “Hmm…I’ve always wondered about that, I’ll look it up!” Then I go to bed cussing myself out for wasting the whole day away, and I vow never to do it again. The next night usually ends the same way.

On another note (pun most enthusiastically intended), are there any songs with “Michael” in the title or lyrics? (more…)

I am DONE! Finished. Over. Done with this HUMUNGO, GI-NORMOUS, HELL of a to-do list. Every. Damn. Thing.

I feel like I’ve lost 2 years off of my life expectancy. Not too sure of my final grades this semester but if I were a betting man, and I had to put money on it, I’d bet that I got a 4.0 =)

Songs of the Day (follow links to download page):

Talib Kweli – “Joy”
Apples In Stereo – “Energy”

Hiatus

overworked cafeine espresso

I can’t blog for a while. I have:

a University of California transfer application to finish and turn in
4 Shakespeare plays to read
2 film adaptations of a Shakespeare play to watch
6 papers to write on those plays and films

6 “scholarly” articles/essays to read
6 essay responses to those articles/essays to write
1 ten-page paper utilizing those 6 articles, 2 films, and 2 plays with an independently developed thesis that has to be utterly brilliant (oh, and of course, the bibliography has to be annotated, just to make us write that much more)

1 novel to read
1 more 10-page paper
1 additional paper

2 short essays
3 photography projects

1 test
1 presentation to give
4 final exams

all to be done within the next THREE weeks. And I have to work (I’ve requested time off…don’t think it will work). It’s insane. But I think I could at least finish everything…don’t know much about the quality of work, but I think I could get it done. I probably won’t be seen much for the next few weeks. Don’t file a missing person’s report…unless, you know, I’m really missing.

Songs of the Day (follow links to download page): [order may closely mirror my thought process in these three weeks]

Muse – “Time is Running Out”

Mae – “Brink of Disaster”
Alexi Murdoch – “Dream About Flying”
Queen – “Don’t Try Suicide”

UPDATE: This is the last week. I have to turn in some of the stuff by this Tuesday, 12/11, and I also have two finals within that time. I think I’m pretty much dead, academically speaking. I’m fighting for my academic life right now. AHHH! (and yet I still waste time to blog.) UPDATE #2: My professor gave an extension. Everything that’s left on that list is due on Monday! I have a full weekend! Wooooo!
