I like the fact that you have found your own path in life instead of accepting the "preferred" path. It is always difficult to go against conventions.

So you're one of those people...You're one of those people who emotionally scar little kids because of something they have no control over...

Okay, all right, I see what you are.

....

....

...I'm just joshin' ya, of course :)

(I can't believe the word "joshin" just came out of me.)

Wow, this letter was heartwarming, not in a dramatic kind of way, but the way you wrote it was so real and unpretentious. :)

I have a lot of Korean friends and back when I was in elementary, we mostly called the guys Kim coz either we couldn't pronounce their names and Kim was always the first word hehe.

I've actually been pretty stoked with my last name ever since I found out it forms a palindrome when paired with a shortened version of my first name -- "Mike Kim"

Thanks for your comments.

p.s. essaytch, honestly, i find your letters more enjoyable. this type of stuff is too serious to do on a daily basis...and I really had to do some serious speed-reading today because of this letter.

When I started college, I told my parents that I will be majoring in Art and they freaked out. But after awhile, they accepted it but have taken to reminding me that I better get a job after I graduate. I wish you luck with your writing. Just be determined!

For the record, Kim is a great last name for an author. Memorable, simple, some may even say “common”, but still very noteworthy…like Adams, as in Douglas Adams. And everyone knows his accomplishment was not only to write one of the greatest Science Fiction novels ever (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), but subsequently to answer the age-old mystery of the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything. (Hellooooo? 42?) I’d say you’re well on your way, my friend.

And p.s….your heartfelt and revealing letter puts my drivel to shame.

Wow, Micheal, that was great. I cannot imagine what it would be like to grow up with a parent that literally was from a different side of the world.
And your name looks just fine next to all of those.
