I would agree. Most of the hip-hop that I enjoy the most come from the more serious, "socially conscious" rappers like Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Blackalicious, the Roots, and rappers of that ilk...but guys like Ludacris, Method Man/Red Man, Eminem(!), Dre, De La Soul, and Outkast are also engaging in entirely different ways. I find Snoop to be quite funny.

Nice- and Hilarious.
I really enjoy Ludacris and feel that Humor plays a big part in his work... in fact, many of my favorite rappers have a HUGE sense of Humor, from Method Man and Ol' Dirty to Snoop and Dr. Dre!

Well, those places are like top-secret, classified places...you probably have to play the song backwards to hear those shout outs.

Great post. I've always loved maps and this one is extremely funny. I'm surprised he didn't include area 57 and cloverfield: the area formerly known as central park. LOL!

Oh yes...it is no doubt offensive. This is what that geography major said about it:

"I’m a female and a feminist. I dislike the usage of the word ‘ho’. However, as a geography major, I find this song hilarious, and had to map it."

It's offensive...but it's so absurd in it's "offensiveness" that it crosses the line into being ridiculous and funny. I mean, c'mon...he's rhyming with area code numbers in his rap! I don't feel too bad because I'm laughing AT Ludacris' expense. You almost can't help it.

And yes, Mayer is a bit pretentious and just sort of...cocky. He is actually extremely funny a lot of times. I do see what you're saying about him though...and I wouldn't really argue with it. All I'm saying is that in the last few years of his career, he has proven to be a pretty damn proficient guitarist at least. What bothers me are music "critics" and bloggers constantly cutting him down as that "Body is a Wonderland" guy. Yes, it's a horrible song, but, as you know, he's actually made some good music since.

This is an interesting observation about Ludacris, although I do think it is offensive for him to use the term "hoes". John Mayer is definitely a talented artist I like the hit song from his latest CD. Although something about Mayer's personality really irks me. Mayer comes across as pretentious at times and acts like he knows everything. He reminds me of George Clooney and not in a good way either.

Yeah, and he seems to avoid the entire Midwest. Seems like Nebraska is a surprise hit with Luda...almost half the state!
